Its impact will be far reaching. With social media, we had to change only how marketing, sales and customer service departments and executives worked. But with social leadership, every department and every employee will have to change how they behave, lead and spend time with each other.
We are shifting from shunning the true human factor in business to accepting head on that organisations must, at some point, travel down a path of social orientation. That will require new business models, new infrastructures, new values, new processes and a new breed of leader to deliver it. Brands have always been at the centre of organisations, but increasingly employees will be at the forefront, engaging in an equal capacity with customers.
Future leaders will need to be s-leaders (social leaders) with a firm grip on the four Cs: content, collaboration, community and collective intelligence. The strength of leaders will lie in their ability to build social capital by creating solid and intimate relationships with people both internally and externally.
